Your mission, vision, values
and strategy, are the strategic
core of your organization.

These, along with strategic goals, enable you to…

  • Improve your organizational focus,
  • Define what is and is not important,
  • Delegate and empower employees and everyone to effective action.

Clarifying your mission, vision and values is the starting place for planning. They come to life and guide people’s actions through on–going conversation.

Mission

Your organization’s mission is your purpose, or the reason why you exist. A powerful mission will tap the larger human values and needs you are serving. For example, the Schlage Lock Company’s mission is “To make the world more secure.”

People’s motivation and productivity are strengthened when there is a good fit between the purpose and passion of organizational members and the organization’s purpose.

Vision

A vision pulls you forward. A great vision, for example “To provide safe drinking water for everyone on the planet,” may not be achievable in one lifetime.

An inspired vision motivates us to improve our capabilities and innovate. A classic example is the mobilizing power and innovation spurred by the space program’s vision to put a man on the moon within 10 years. Another is Martin Luther King’s vision which used the principle of non–violence to desegregate the state of Alabama and spurred the national civil rights movement.

Values and core principles

Your values are an inherent part of your identity. “We stand for providing the highest quality service,” is a declaration of caring for those whom you serve. Other examples of values you might stand for are care for the well–being of your employees and their families, a concern for the environment, and high ethical standards.

Think about great people you admire, or great organizations and endeavors. Adherence to a set of core principles is a large part of what makes them great. Once you identify your core values, it is how the leadership and everyone consciously lives them, that makes the difference.

Oasis helps you clarify your core values, and then uses processes that help you to live them.

Strategic Planning

Honing a strategic plan is both science and art. It includes a discovery process identifying your passions and unique organizational strengths, marrying this with where need and opportunity lie. This is called your “sweet spot.” Planning is fueled by powerful questions which stretch your thinking.

Oasis planning is a lively process that quickly connects to implementation.
Our planning model is drawn from several sources
and can be adapted to your needs.

“Organizing is always an act of creating an identity.”
